How this Reddit shadowban checker works
A shadowban hides everything you post without telling you. Your profile looks fine to you, but strangers see nothing. This checker reads Reddit's public JSON the way a logged-out stranger would: username availability, the public about page, then a recent post permalink without cookies. If the name is taken but the profile 404s, that is the classic shadowban signature. If the profile loads but a recent post 404s, we call it likely shadowbanned.
How the verdict is calculated
- 1
Is the name even taken?
We ask Reddit's username_available endpoint. If the name is free, there is no account to ban.
- 2
Can strangers see the profile?
We load /user/name/about.json. A 404 on a taken name means hidden — shadowbanned or banned-and-hidden. A 200 with is_suspended means suspended, not shadowbanned.
- 3
Can strangers see the posts?
If the profile is public we open up to 3 recent post permalinks as .json. A 404 on a fresh post while the profile loads means content is hidden site-wide.
New or quiet accounts also look empty — no posts is not proof of a ban. We show karma, cake day, and verification flags so you can tell a fresh account from a hidden one.
Who this is for
- Anyone whose posts suddenly get zero views, zero votes, zero replies.
- Marketers checking aged accounts before a campaign.
- Mods confirming whether a user is site-hidden versus subreddit-muted.
Limits
No scan cookie is used and results cache 10 minutes. We cannot see site-wide comment filters, appeal status, or subreddit-level mutes. A "not shadowbanned" result means public posts load today — a subreddit can still remove you. If the score looks weak, run the CQS estimator.
What is a Reddit shadowban?
An account-level hide: your posts and comments are invisible to everyone else but look normal to you. Appeals go through Reddit support, not mods.
Why does my new account look empty?
Low karma plus no history looks identical to a hidden account at a glance. The permalink cross-check is what separates "new" from "hidden".
Can you see comment-level filters?
No. No public tool can. We check profile plus post permalinks, which catches full shadowbans but not per-subreddit crowd-control filters.
