How this subreddit activity checker works

"Is this subreddit dead?" We answer with numbers: about.json (subscribers, online count, created date) plus /r/sub/new.json (last-post age, median comments on last 25) plus a 30-day Arctic Shift aggregate computed in PHP (posts/week). Labels: Very active ≥50/7d, Active ≥10/7d, Quiet ≥1/7d, Dead otherwise or last post >30d.

How the label is calculated

   Read the census

   Members, online now (when Reddit exposes it), created year, NSFW flag.

2. 2

   Read the pulse

   Newest 25 posts give last-post age and median comment count — discussion depth, not just volume.

3. 3

   Count the month

   Arctic Shift daily counts fold into posts/week and posts/month so one viral day can't fake a label.

Limits

Public posts only; removed threads and comment volume are invisible. Small rooms produce noisy labels. IP-only quota, 15-min cache. Pair with best time and rules.
